Taking a trip abroad can be an amazing journey, and our tech gadgets have made things easier by providing us directions, advice on where to eat, and even translations for the local language. But it might make for a more memorable experience if when you have a question of travel, you just ask a local. You may not understand his native tongue, but there are other ways to communicate that don't involve words.
I've been lucky enough to do some traveling the past few years. What I've discovered is that it's these type of old narrow streets that really appeal to me. The grandiose cathedrals and monuments are certainly impressive, but seeing these old houses and neighborhoods where people have lived for centuries and continue to live today really connects the present with the past in a comforting way.

Delightful picture! It captures the appeal of traveling to a sun-kissed place where it's pleasurable to become lost on purpose. And the look on the visitor's face says so much about what he's thinking, and hoping.Monday, April 23, 2012 at 10:11 AM

John G, It's funny you say that about the map. On many aspects of my pieces I spend a lot of time replicating details. But also many times I employ a technique called 'fudging it' (yes that's the technical term -jk). Things like the map are too small and intricate to try to render exactly so I just try to give the impression. I'll put on some colors, then some squiggles and keep at it 'til I can stand back at least 3 feet and have it 'look right'.Monday, April 23, 2012 at 10:45 AM

Oh my... I can easily see why he's in lust! If I had a tour-guide like him I'd NEVER come home! You say you like the "old narrow streets". So do I. Have you ever been to York, England? If not, you need to go... and while you're there, check out "The Shambles". If memory serves me correctly, that's what this incredibly narrow street is called. You'll LOVE it!! =) Thanks for yet another amazing painting, Michael!Monday, April 23, 2012 at 02:39 PM

This is a fantastically AWESOME piece. The guys are stunningly handsome with their rugged, masculine faces and those muscular arms and a great hairy chest and tummy. That combined with what looks like a great European setting make me want to jump into the scene with them and help them find what they are searching for.(hopefully it's a lucky Pierre for their three-some). Truly a masterpiece, Michael.Monday, April 23, 2012 at 10:34 PM

Thanks guys! If the piece makes you say, "I want to go to there," then I know I've done my job :-)Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 11:31 AM |
