On the Drawing Board: Hunky tree huggers.

Maybe it's a generational thing, but I've always had a fondness for the VW bus/camper, and it seems I know many others who feel the same way. When I was a kid I had a light blue toy one. Anyway, they seem to be pretty popular here in Vermont. I guess it fits in with the nature loving, tree hugging, retro hippie, easy going way of life vibe that is strong in the Green Mountain state.

New Site, New Art, New Name - but still me!

I'm launching a new website!

Since I don't just do male nude paintings, I'm building a website to showcase my other works. You could say, "I'm separating the hens from the cocks."

The new site will present my pastel paintings, prints and items of 'other' subject matter, which so far is only chickens. I'll also be moving my Pup Portrait Commissions over there. As you see I'll be using a different name, my fiancé's last name, for keeping things somewhat separated. After all, someone looking for a chicken painting or a dog portrait might get a case of the vapors seeing all the naked men on this site.

I'm thinking it might also be a good time to diversify, who knows how much longer we'll have an open and uncensored internet.

While it's not live yet, if you are interested in this other facet of my art please go to MichaelMastertonArt.com and sign up for the newsletter and to be notified when the site is live.

A Dozen New Large Magnets!

Bigger seems to be better!

People have responded well to the new large magnets (maybe the frontal nudity has helped too!)

Anyway I just added 12 more to the collection. Some contain frontal nudity and were not even available as magnets before. I've also replenished the ones that had sold out or were on the verge.

And the remaining small magnets are $1.25 off while supplies last.

On the Drawing Board: Getting Hairy

Using a pastel pencil to add chest hair to "The Mechanic". It's all about the the length and pattern. Keep the lines fairly short. You want to replicate the pattern the hair grows in, but still keep it a little random and disorganized to make it look natural. If it were wet you'd want to make the hair lines converge together and create trails that lead downward while still conforming to the body.

New Release x2: Father Figure Series

My 'Father Figure' series isn't just about the 'daddy' look it also depicts those male archetypes in our lives that carry an air of authority, the men we may admire as role models, as well as define our perception of masculinity. I've finished the first two and am working on a third with plans for several more. I decided to go with a minimal portrait style, hearkening back to my first series Men In Briefs. After all, it's about 'the figures'.

New release pricing on prints and the originals now through Sunday January 15th.

On the Drawing Board: Full Frontal Father Figures

As I mentioned in my last newsletter I've this idea for a series in mind, tentatively called 'Father Figures'. I'm incorporating some traditional authoritarian archetypes for each Figure. Here's a peek at the first three sketch outlines, from left to right I have 'The Coach', 'The Boss', and 'The Mechanic'. At this time I'm planning on each being full frontal nudes...but as always my works seem to eventually direct me where to take them.

Nominees for Supporting Artists...

2017-01-03.jpg

Typically when you hear talk about supporting artists it means buying their work. That of course is terrific. But most of us artists who have to watch our nickles and dimes, know that not everyone can afford an original or can buy each print or card or magnet that we offer. There's another great way to support your favorite artists, and it is really simple: share their work on social media. Now being a follower is a start, but what I'm talking about is giving a 'thumbs up' a 'heart' or a 'like', a share, a re-post, or a re-tweet. Most artists can't afford much (or anything) for marketing & advertising so every share and like is really helpful and appreciated. If you're already a fan or follower just take that extra step when you're scrolling through and hit that button and be an active supporter!

P.S. Share an artists work from the venues he/she provides. Posting an artist's work, without really giving acknowledgment, their name, their website etc. is not supportive or cool.
