This is the final preliminary pencil outline made before starting the pastel painting. While my pastel paintings are created from these final outlines, often elements may be added, eliminated or changed in the finished work.

The obvious change that occurred in Austin from this outline to the final pastel painting, is that here he is naked. The amount of nudity in a piece is something I often don’t decide right away. As Austin evolved, I felt his face, his gaze, and his hands held so much interest that showing more would distract. Also the black briefs, coupled with the black hat, accentuates his bad boy sexiness.
