Throughout our lives, when faced with turbulent waters, most of us will follow the rocky shore until we find that bridge that gets us to a better place on the other side. So it’s a sad and strange irony that in moments of hopelessness there are some who don’t seek a metaphorical bridge to get them over the rough seas, but rather a physical one to leap from, as a means of giving up.

The recent attention by the media to bullying and subsequent suicides by a disproportionate number of LGBT youth was the catalyst for my current painting. While I did not want to romanticize the act in any way, I felt it was important put the viewer in that critical moment.
