Crawl Into Bed (2012)
23¾×18½ Pastel on Pastel Paper
Original is Sold

When a long day is finally done, there is an incredible sense of relief in stripping away your clothes and slipping into a quiet sanctuary. As you feel the weight of the world lift from your shoulders, the sight of a soft mattress and piled pillows makes you just want to Crawl into Bed.

This piece allowed me to closely study the shifting mechanics of the human anatomy in motion. Working in pastel, my primary challenge was rendering the complex musculature of the back and shoulder blades as the figure leans his weight into the bed. I utilized a soft, ambient light source spilling from the window above the headboard to catch the smooth, rich skin tones, casting gentle shadows that emphasize both his immense physical strength and the quiet, intimate mood of the bedroom.
