After the Pirates vs. Marlins game went deep into extra innings, the guys were completely exhausted and looking forward to nothing more than winding down under a hot shower. But the "Marlins" weren't the only sea creatures waiting to cause an upset. Suddenly, the floor tiles ruptured as massive, glowing green tentacles burst from beneath the drain, snaring the unsuspecting players to drag them down into a watery abyss.

In maritime lore, Davy Jones is the fierce fiend presiding over the evil spirits of the deep, and his infamous "locker" is the final resting place at the very bottom of the ocean for shipwrecked remains and drowned sailors. By combining this classic nautical nightmare with a penchant for athletic men in gym showers, I wanted to deliver something delightfully campy and intense. Following in the footsteps of Gaylien Invaders, this piece captures a high-octane, pulp-horror B-movie aesthetic. Working in pastel, I had a blast playing with dramatic, heightened lighting, contrasting the murky, sickly green glow of the deep-sea tentacles with the panicked expressions and slick, wet muscles of the athletes caught completely off-guard mid-rinse.
