Exhausted yet still pumped with adrenaline from battling the blaze, our hero returns from his first major call. After being a bit shaken from the chaotic ordeal of entering the inferno, he finds balance in knowing his actions saved lives.
For this commissioned piece, Engine 13, I was given minimal guidelines: paint a hot fireman. The rest was up to me. I started with the simple idea of showing off his hunky physique, depicting him having just returned from a fire and partly shedding his uniform. Getting the right expression was a challenge, as I wanted him to look tired but not beaten down, and proud of his performance, but not cocky either.
