Gianni (2002)
20×30 Pastel on Illustration Board

The fourth entry in my Men in Briefs series, this study of Gianni explores the dynamic contrast between powerful muscularity and tactile textures. For a subject this sculpted, even the minimal tank top and briefs seem secondary to the physical form itself. I often feel the urge to depict my subjects as bare as possible to let the anatomy truly speak, challenging myself to make the rendered skin and muscle feel alive and dimensional on the page. At the same time, I enjoy the specific technical trial of bringing out the soft, draped qualities of the fabric in what little clothing I choose to let my men wear. This piece captures that perfect balance of raw presence and careful rendering.
