It really is the most wonderful time of the year. There’s nothing quite like the anticipation of a tightly wrapped holiday package arriving at your door, especially when the delivery guy is sporting a a very impressive package of his own.
I didn’t want it to be like that Christmas special, The Year Without a Santa Claus… a year without a Christmas painting. And while much later than usual, I got this year’s in with just a week to go.
When putting together this scene, I wanted to capture that instant spike of excitement when you open the front door to a holiday delivery. The composition frames the delivery man right at the threshold, with his truck parked along the neighborhood street in the background. I focused on adding welcoming, festive touches to the entry, like the green garland framing the top of the doorway and the bright red ornaments on the front door wreath. For the courier himself, I used a bright, clean light to emphasize his form in the tight uniform, the definition in his forearms, and his friendly, knowing smile as he holds out your package.
