Land's End (2013)
18½×23 Pastel on Pastel Paper
Original is Sold

He finds himself at Land’s End, where the vast sky and timeless ocean stretch out before him. Feeling small and insignificant against the scale of nature, he is nonetheless filled with a deep sense of wonder and the hope of endless possibilities.

There are a few places that give me that feeling like I'm at the very tip of everything, as far away as I can get without being set adrift. That feeling inspired both the coastal setting for this piece and my decision to make the figure a little more mature. We all go through the ups and downs of life, working through the chaos, hopefully wiser and enriched. Eventually, we reach not the end, but a checkpoint where we realize we've survived. What was once important fades into the background, and a plethora of new possibilities stands before us.
