Lathered Up (2006)
18¼x23¼ Pastel on Pastel Paper

Start with the warm spray of water, the fresh fragrance of an exotic soap, the silky bubbles and rivulets that cascade down your body, and then add the gentle touch of a lover’s hands caressing your skin and massaging your body as you get Lathered Up.

The often menial act of bathing becomes intimate and sensual. Arousal is inescapable. Admittedly, water is often present or implied in many of my works. I do not know if that has anything to do with being a Scorpio (a water sign) or that when people are around water they tend to be undressed. But I really enjoy incorporating it into a painting even though its varied properties, glistening, reflection, refraction, transparency, et cetera, can be challenging. I find that it adds such an interesting quality.
