Stripping off your clothes, pouring a favorite drink, or slipping into a hot bath. There are a multitude of indulgences we partake in to relieve the stress of a Long Hard Day.
While composing my paintings, I often debate whether the figure will be full frontal or not. With this piece, there wasn't any doubt about showing an erection because it was a big part (pun intended) of the concept itself. Working in pastel, my goal was to contrast the cool, rigid geometry of the large grey bathroom tiles with the warm, soft skin tones and thick chest hair of the figure. I focused heavily on the natural light pouring in from the window, which beautifully sculpts his physique and heightens the quiet, solitary mood.
