The places you go, the things you do, the people you meet, and the moments you share, these are exactly what make up life’s journey. As we travel along, we need to actively seek, embrace, and treasure the special moments of Our Voyage.
Normally, the commissions I do fall into one of two categories: either the client provides a direct reference image like a portrait, or they give me a verbal description of a concept and let me develop the painting from scratch. This piece was a unique hybrid of both. The client provided a photograph of the basic concept but graciously allowed me the freedom to develop the painting with compositional changes that I felt worked better artistically. Working in pastel, I focused on the striking scale of the massive cruise liner docked in the tropical port, contrasting its sleek hull with the lush green hedges and the warm, athletic physiques of the two men looking toward their next adventure together.
