Coming back home after a long absence can be intensely emotional, especially if leaving was an escape or spurred by lofty dreams. But that return often reveals how much we have grown. We come back resurrected—stronger, wiser, and more whole from our time away.

For this piece, I focused on the vibrant contrast between the sun-drenched, textured field grasses and the smooth, heavy lines of the vintage red Car. The warm, fading light washes across the rough denim, worn boots, and his relaxed, shirtless torso, firmly anchoring him in the scene.

You might recognize this piece as the former St. Luke's Summer. I actually pulled it from the site a while back because it just was not clicking for me conceptually or compositionally. Sometimes it takes stepping out of the heat of the creative moment to gain a truly objective eye. While it feels like breaking an unspoken rule to alter a painting after it has been released to the world, I don't believe signing a piece locks it in stone forever. Plays are tweaked long after opening night, and I wanted to give this one the same chance to evolve.
