Summer Moved On (2005)
18×24 Pastel on Pastel Paper

We have all been there. You meet a great guy while on vacation, and there is an instant mutual attraction. But do you play it cool? After all, you are only there for two weeks.

As captured in the bittersweet embrace of Summer Moved On, you have to ask yourself if you should risk the heartache that comes from falling for one of those golden boys of summer. The answer is of course yes. Otherwise, why bother leaving home at all? I was in the mood to work on a piece featuring the sun-bleached, faded colors that remind me so much of Cape Cod. I try to put myself in the painting's setting, imagining the sound of the waves, the smell of the ocean, and the feel of the sand under my bare feet, and then I incorporate those emotional elements right into the work.
