Wading into the heated waters of The Baths, the steam filled air carries the fragrance of scented oils as firm hands provide a sensual release for taut muscles.
I was approached in early 2006 to do a commissioned work. The only guidelines were that it be historical, large, and feature four guys. Having considered the Roman baths as a setting many times in the past, I decided it was perfect for the basis of this work. This piece presented a few challenges for me. For one, it was larger than any I had worked on in the past. And while this meant it took longer for me to complete, it also was too large for me to scan myself. I also decided to use pastel board, something I had never worked with before and was not used to. But I am pleased with the results, and more importantly, the customer was very happy.
