Tie the Knot (2013)
24×18½ Pastel on Pastel Paper
Original is Sold

They say marriage means joining two lives into one, but this playful scene introduces a much more literal, and incredibly seductive, take on the concept.

I know I often comment that a piece was fun to do, but when the idea for Tie the Knot came to me, I suspected it would be particularly enjoyable. Contriving the pose and trying to take reference pictures of myself at this specific overhead angle proved to be a real challenge! But then came the rendering. Capturing the wet granules of sand, the bubbling edge of the ocean water, the unique angle, and the suits tied together, it all made for such an interesting piece to execute in pastel.
