Bath Time (2012)
24×18½ Pastel on Pastel Paper
Original is Sold

After an active day at the park, an adventure through the woods, or frolicking at the beach, a good, long sudsy soak is both a necessary and gratifying undertaking for A Dog and his Boy.

I had never truly been a dog person until a friend got one. After I started dog-sitting, I quickly became deeply attached to the little mutt and finally came to understand the profound bond between dogs and their people. This is my second piece celebrating that special connection. In pastel, the challenge was all about balancing the different textures, capturing the wet, fluffy look of the soap-covered fur alongside the smooth, warm skin tones of the guy. I kept the background light and airy to let the joy and playful energy of the moment take center stage.
