To some, it may seem like hard work. But what can compare to being outdoors under the sun, growing food against a backdrop of rolling hills and wide-open skies? It reminds us of our connection with Mother Earth, building a deep pride in the land where you were Born and Bred.
It is entirely fitting that the first piece I have finished since moving to Vermont features a farmer, though I actually started the drawing before the move. I love visiting local farmers markets and meeting the hardworking folks who grow my food. Working in pastel, I focused on capturing that rustic vitality, from his sweat-glistened, hairy chest and dirt-stained jeans to the classic red tractor and barn framing the lush green fields.
