While summer sun is always welcome, the season also brings those cozy days when it gets Dark and Stormy and there is nothing to do but stay in. As long as the power holds, making the best of a rainy night with a laptop can turn out to be a great time; just hold on until it blows over.
The initial concept for this painting was to revisit the intersection of sexuality and technology, featuring a guy enjoying some late-night solitude cruising the web. It had been a while since I featured a ginger model, so a hot redheaded guy was my main inspiration starting out. Only as the piece neared completion did I decide to add the rainfall outside the window, which made everything click. A Dark 'n Stormy is my favorite cocktail, and its primary ingredient is ginger beer. Ginger, dark and stormy night, it was simply meant to be, so I added the rum drink on the sofa cushion to bring the entire narrative together.
