Just two blue collar guys getting together after a hard day of work, tossing back a few beers, and thoroughly enjoying each other's company.
I usually do a bit of narrative planning before starting a new piece, but with Buds, I just loved the idea of two hardworking men having a very peaceful, intimate nap together. After I had the completely nude subjects drawn, the setting of a mattress on the floor with a couple of empty bottles nearby naturally made its way onto the paper. Fabrics used to be a challenge for me, especially trying to figure out how various textures and folds would behave. But I have found that if I just don’t overthink it, everything flows quite smoothly.
