The sky darkens and the swells increase, as nature changes her mood. The atmosphere on the Beach too, has suddenly changed; what was moments ago a buzz with playful frolic and carefree relaxation is eerily empty. It’s last call—just one last dip before the sea puts on her tempestuous show.
Working in pastel, I wanted to capture the shifting mood of the elements. I focused on the textures of the heavy storm clouds overhead, illuminated by a faint, fading sun and a touch of pink on the horizon. The composition is built around a rear-view perspective, mapping out the anatomy of the man's back and shoulders as he stands waist-deep in the translucent swells, looking out toward the oncoming Weather.
