Down on the ranch, time seems to move at a much slower pace, and Cowboy captures a moment where the subject takes a much needed break from his daily chores. I have gotten a high volume of requests over the years for Western-themed artwork, making this drawing my very first official attempt at the genre. During the process, I was pleasantly surprised by how naturally and easily the realistic wood-grain effect of the fence came together in charcoal. I used deep contrasts to highlight the athletic build and the texture of the lasso rope against the rustic backdrop.
