They say hindsight is 20/20. In Distant, our handsome subject seems to be contemplating the consequences of his actions, even if he did not bother to think things through beforehand. Sometimes you just have to lay back and reflect. The collector who purchased my original piece titled Elsewhere commissioned me to do another work featuring one of its subjects, but in a relaxed, intimate pose and setting similar to Daydreams. I remember when I was painting that earlier piece, I dreaded doing the pillows due to my love/hate relationship with fabrics. But I did not feel any of that apprehension this time around, and everything came together beautifully.
