Every human being has within him an ideal man, just as every piece of marble contains in a rough state a statue as beautiful as the one that Praxiteles the Greek made of the god Apollo. — Jose Marti

Refined Blurb

Meet Evan, the newest addition to my Mini Figurative series. For this piece, I got a little inspired by the statuesque presence Chris Evans brought to Captain America, and he stands fully ready to defend his title.

To build that chiseled, marble-like texture against the warm brown paper, I focused heavily on the definition of his back, shoulder, and jawline. I used deep black pastels to ground the heavy shadows along his spine and chest hair, then let the white charcoal do the heavy lifting to pull forward those bright, muscular highlights. It is a process that relies entirely on sharp contrast, making the figure pop off the page like a classical sculpture rather than a flat drawing.
