Happy Trails
Happy Trails (2017)
24×18 Pastel on Pastel Paper
Original is Available
Grab your guy, throw your gear in the back, and just go! No destination, no reservations required. Grab food and fuel at the country store, take the back roads, and navigate the curvy mountain passes. Stop for a quick skinny-dip at a picturesque gorge, pull off onto a hidden dirt road, and just follow the Happy Trails. You never know what treasures await.
Ever since I was a kid, I've thought VW buses were just the coolest vehicles on the road. The other guys may have been all about Trans Ams or pickup trucks, but give me a VW bus, camper, or pop-top any day. Since moving here, I've realized that in Vermont, they are a true cultural icon. They perfectly represent that hippie, nature-loving, independent, and free-thinking vibe that I absolutely love about this state. Working in pastel, I wanted to capture the ultimate autumn road trip, contrasting the classic red and white camper van with a brilliant backdrop of orange and gold fall foliage, while the two guys relax outside in their underwear enjoying a quiet morning.
