A particularly hot spell demands that the boys take a little midday break from the work in the fields. They hop in their truck and head down to the river for a refreshing skinny dip. Who knows what playful splashing around they’ll get up to, but one thing is for sure, there are always consequences for being the Last One In.
The collector who purchased my painting Red Truck many years ago commissioned me to create this sequel of sorts. It was incredibly nostalgic but also fun and fresh to craft another chapter for these cowboys, their loyal dog, and their red pickup. It is a wonderful feeling knowing the two pieces will be displayed right alongside each other in their home in Iowa. Working in pastel, my creative focus was capturing the bright, dappled sunlight filtering through the trees, rendering the glistening skin of the men and the transparent ripples of the river water.
