Melons (2012)
18×12 Pastel on Pastel Paper
Original is Sold

Continuing with my Fresh Fruit series, Melons serves as the companion piece to Grapes, further exploring my desire to inject a bit of playfulness into the traditional still life. Working in pastel, the technical challenge shifted from the translucent sheen of grapes to the matte, subtly textured, pale green surface of honeydews. By framing the composition in a tight, low-angle close-up, I wanted to create a striking visual rhythm, contrasting the smooth, heavy weight of the fruit against the rich skin tones and powerful musculature of the kneeling figure.
