There is a dominant trait of competitiveness in men who participate in sports, always testing themselves against the next guy to see how they measure up. While most straight men wouldn’t admit it, they also check out other guys in the Men’s Room; it simply is in their nature to assess the physique or sneak a peek at the whole package.
Working in pastel, my goal was to channel that charged, heartbeat-racing atmosphere. I loved playing with the forced perspective of the urinals fading into the background, contrasting the stark, cool tile walls with the warm, muscular forms of the two athletes sharing a tense, surreptitious glance.
