Who ever said that pleasure wasn’t functional? — Charles Eames
With this piece, I wanted to continue that Palm Springs retro aesthetic but shift to a more dynamic physical action to complement its companion piece, Mid Century Bold. The background maintains the clean, horizontal architecture of the modern estate, paired with desert greenery and bright yellow drapes seen through the glass to tie the two halves of the diptych together. For the main subject, I wanted to showcase the movement and stretch of a man getting ready to jump into the pool. Raising the striped swim ring overhead completely flexes the muscles across his back and shoulders, allowing the harsh desert sun to catch the highlights along his spine and triceps right before he takes a dive.
