Sometimes, when he needed a bit of inspiration, he would take his pencil and paper and hang out at the museum, gazing at and sketching the wonderful works that surrounded him. On occasion, what got his creative juices flowing wasn’t on the wall, but sitting right next to him.
I set this idea aside for a couple of years, but in a way, it perfectly reflects its own creative process. Ask any artist or writer and they will tell you it is rarely a lack of ideas that slows you down, it is the search for that deep motivation to bring them to life. I get plenty of good suggestions from friends, but I need a project to truly click and ignite a spark before I feel that absolute need to see it realized. Finding your perfect Muse changes everything. Working in pastel, I loved creating the meta-narrative of this gallery space, contrasting the classical, framed art on the walls with the modern, unspoken connection between the two men on the bench.
