It could be a hot bath, but it could also be a comfy chair and a good book, or driving your car while listening to classical music. It is your private sanctuary, alone with your uncluttered mind, a place to dream and to drift in your own Sea of Tranquility.
There are always distinct little visual ideas that get stuck in my head and get me excited about starting a new painting. Here, it was the specific, vibrant turquoise hue of the water and keeping it intentionally shallow. Furthermore, while I always enjoy the process of rendering soapy suds, I opted for completely flat, still water this time to better echo that sense of calm, absolute serenity. Working in pastel, I focused on the contrast between the cool, translucent water and his warm, muscular physique, adding playful details like his shoulder tattoo, the natural sea sponge, and a classic little rubber ducky floating by his side.
