You pack the essentials: sunscreen, water, and perhaps some lube, before setting out across the hot salt marsh. It’s a tough hike, but climbing over the burning dunes rewards you with a beautiful, isolated beach. Wading through the clear water with his pack strapped on, a chiseled, bearded man looks out across the flats. He is the Prince of Tides, arriving at a relaxed, clothing-optional haven to share with a community of his fellow gays.
The Moors Trail leads from Province Lands Road to the gay section of Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown. There's no sign; you just look for the parked bikes. Depending on the tide, the route varies from wet sand to waist-deep water. You could use the main entrance, but this hike is totally worth it for a crowd-free sanctuary. In pastel, I loved capturing that bright, sun-drenched Cape Cod light, contrasting the cool, shallow marsh water with warm, rich skin tones.
