The Olympic games are fantastic for showcasing the world's finest athletes, but they also put the spectacular beauty and culture of the host country centerstage. I had been wanting to work on a piece inspired by the Athens games without heavily focusing on the actual sporting events, which got me thinking about the legendary scenery of the region and how those breathtaking vistas would perfectly compliment the views provided by the athletes themselves. Born from catastrophic destruction, the island of Santorini possesses a raw beauty that demands respect, and I had a wonderful time playing with the rich colors of the Mediterranean sea and sky to frame a majestic, tanned figure taking in a view that is equally magnificent from behind.
