This is the final preliminary pencil outline made before starting the pastel painting. While my pastel paintings are created from these final outlines, often elements may be added, eliminated or changed in the finished work.
“Sometimes I’m a little off on the dimensions and my outline doesn’t quite fill up the pastel paper as I’d hoped. I do like to fill up most of the paper. So in the final painting I end up showing his right hand wrapped around the other side of the tree. ”
