Gay Pride is about outrageous costumes, scantily clad men and women, fabulous floats, and stomping music on a fun summer day. It’s all that, and a whole lot more. It’s a way to show the world that not only are we here and queer. We are their neighbors, their friends, their sons and daughters. And we should not be treated differently, given less rights and protections, just because of who we fall in love with.

I had wanted to paint this guy since NYC Pride '03. Not just because he's hot, but that costume! Like a peacock strutting down the street. I had so much fun with this piece, from the feathers to the out-of-focus crowd.
