“We are drawn to water, finding peace in the sound of its trickle or gentle lapping waves. We yearn to live near it, or vacation by it. We enjoy a long soaking bath, or the cascading pulse of a shower. We even install pools of it in our backyards to float and frolic in, our own private oasis. Its buoyancy and the slickness to the skin makes for a very sensuous experience, a wet dream to be enjoyed alone, or shared with others.”
I love getting the subjects of my paintings wet. The glistening skin, the reflection of light, swelling droplets of water clinging to bodies. But I had never really attempted to paint a body IN water. I thought it would be a huge challenge showing the distortion caused by water, the way it bends and bounces light. But it was a lot of fun and not nearly as difficult as I feared.
