Even when he was a youth, Ash was always more comfortable in nature, traipsing in the woods, running through a field, or swimming in a stream. He continues those pursuits with a passion, and as he has always preferred, whenever he can, to be au naturel himself.
With all the rustic red barns surrounding me here in Vermont, many looking beautifully abandoned and overgrown, I am always intensely curious about what stories they could tell. Working in pastel, I wanted to capture a moment of quiet, rustic solitude. I focused on the striking interplay of light and shadow filtering through the overhead trees, casting dappled leaf patterns across the subject’s muscular, nude physique as he relaxes on a wooden beam, framed perfectly by a classic New England country backdrop.
