Choppy the Clown
Choppy the Clown (2018)

No one really knows what makes a person become a crazed killer... or a clown. Perhaps it’s a genetic disorder. For Choppy the Clown, maybe it was his absentee lumberjack father or his oppressive make-up artist mother that messed him up.
When your husband is turned on by hunky men but is completely creeped out by clowns, the obvious choice for a Halloween painting is a hunky, creepy clown!
Working in pastel, I fully embraced the dark, gritty elements of the horror genre for this seasonal piece. I had a lot of fun playing with a sinister, low-key lighting scheme, casting deep shadows across his muscular, seated physique while drawing focus to his menacing makeup, the red balloon animal clutched in his hand, and the bloody axe resting right at his feet.
