The men of Australia's surf lifesaving clubs are practically synonymous with Aussie manhood, their toned, bronzed physiques glistening with rivulets of seawater under the bright sun.
With Bondi, I wanted to capture the raw energy of these athletes in their element while highlighting a fascinating, practical tradition. If you have ever wondered why these lifesavers roll their swimsuits up, it is a technique to help them glide smoothly against the stationary plastic seats of their surf boats. Combined with a bit of ocean spray, the smooth material gives them the sliding momentum they need to battle the waves.
