Lying in Wait (2004)
23×17½ Pastel on Pastel Paper
Original is Sold

Home early from work, he decides to surprise his napping boyfriend in a way that has proven popular in the past, but what he does not know is that his lover is fully aware of his presence and is simply Lying in Wait.

I always enjoy drawing couples in romantic settings, and the bedroom is an obvious favorite for bringing these intimate moments to life. I am also a firm believer that a piece does not need to be entirely explicit to convey true connection, so I played with the composition here to focus on the tension of the anticipation, leaving the details of what happens next to the viewer's imagination.
