An exhibit featuring works by artists published in the gay magazines that many of us grew up with opened this past Friday at Leslie-Lohmann Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art. As one of the artists included I attended the preview on Thursday. It's a wonderful collection of our gay history so please check it out if you can. The exhibit, curated by one of my favorite artists Robert W. Richards, runs until May 25th.
Here's a little corner of my current project. It's inspired by all the (straight) married guys out there who like to hook up on the DL with other guys.
Hmmm, the second blue pickup truck I've done this year. I wonder if my subconscious is trying to tell me something?
While the original is available for immediate purchase through the Lyman-Eyer gallery, it must stay with the gallery until the end of my upcoming show this summer.
The upcoming exhibit, Stroke: From Under the Mattress to the Museum Wall, at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art in NYC, of which I am honored to be part, opens March 27th with a preview, and then a public reception on March 28th and runs through May 25th, 2014.
I don't know if it's because as I get older I perhaps am getting wiser, but I have this growing affinity for nature and being more in sync with what is natural, simple and pure. A back to basics mentality.
The original is available for purchase through Gallery XO in Wilton Manors, Florida.
The upcoming exhibit at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art in NYC, of which I am honored to be part of, recently got a shout out from the Huffington Post and the Advocate.
The show is titled Stroke: From Under the Mattress to the Museum Walls, and will open March 27th, running through May 25th.
There have always been elements that intimidate me when I think of having to render them in pastel. At one time, one of those things was wet skin and another was wet, sheer clothing. Now both of those things are elements I really love to do and I like to think I've gotten pretty skilled at.
Over the years I've painted quite a few cowboys, though it wasn't until after I was finished that I realized Back Forty is my first rear nude cowboy. Which is surprising given how much I like cowboys and asses.
While the original is available for purchase, it will remain with the Lyman-Eyer gallery through the end of my show this July.
Another look at my current piece in progress. That dirty pile of pastel sticks, bits and pieces is typical. Sometimes I try to be more neat about it, but I just keep grabbing different colors and that's where they end up. It becomes my 'in use pile'. They're all right there in front of me but I do I have to constantly rummage though the pile to find the one I want. Which is often the one I just got done using and can't find.
Welcome to the art of Michael Breyette.
Michael's pastel paintings capture the stunning beauty of the male form with warmth and sensitivity while never shying away from lustful eroticism.
This website contains fine art depictions of male nudity, gay themes, and men in sensual and romantic situations. Do not enter if you choose to be offended by this subject matter.
Otherwise, if you appreciate the male form in all its glory, come on inside and enjoy!
